Everything You Need to Know About Triangle Piercings
A triangle piercing is the only genital piercing that stimulates the clitoris from behind. It passes horizontally through the tissue at the base of the clitoral hood, beneath the clitoral shaft. It is one of the most anatomy-dependent piercings available and requires a piercer with specific expertise to perform safely. This guide covers the anatomy requirement, the Bermuda Triangle jewellery technique, pain levels, the 6 to 8 week healing timeline and aftercare.Everything You Need to Know About Triangle Piercings
A triangle piercing is a horizontal piercing that passes through the tissue at the base of the clitoral hood, beneath the clitoral shaft, where the inner labia meet the hood. The jewellery sits underneath the shaft of the clitoris with both ends visible on either side of the clitoral hood. The name comes from the triangular shape of the tissue formed where the labia meets the hood when it is pinched for the piercing. The piercing does not pass through the clitoris itself or the clitoral glans.
The triangle is the only genital piercing that stimulates the clitoris from behind rather than from the front. The VCH piercing stimulates from the front and above; the triangle stimulates from underneath the shaft, which is a fundamentally different sensation that is not achievable by any other piercing. There are reports of the triangle piercing alleviating anorgasmia in some individuals by providing stimulation from a previously unstimulated angle. This is one reason the triangle is highly sought-after despite its demanding anatomy requirement.
The triangle is one of the most anatomy-dependent piercings in existence. The procedure is performed primarily by touch rather than sight: the piercer must locate the clitoral shaft by feel and keep it continuously elevated throughout the needle pass to prevent accidental contact with the shaft. An incorrect placement that contacts or damages the clitoral shaft can permanently affect sexual function. This is not a piercing to rush or to book with an inexperienced piercer under any circumstances. In the UK, all genital piercings require clients to be 18 or over with valid photo ID.
Who Can Get a Triangle Piercing?
Does a Triangle Piercing Hurt?
Most people rate triangle piercing pain at 6 out of 10. The tissue at the base of the hood is highly sensitive but relatively thin and the needle pass is brief. Some people find the experience of the piercer manipulating the tissue to locate and elevate the shaft more uncomfortable than the needle pass itself. Some light bleeding after the procedure is normal due to the vascular nature of genital tissue.
Initial healing takes 6 to 8 weeks. This is relatively fast for a genital piercing and reflects the high vascularity of the clitoral hood tissue. Full internal healing takes longer than the surface appears to indicate: the piercing may look healed at 6 weeks while the internal fistula is still maturing. Confirm full healing with your piercer before changing jewellery. Because the triangle sits in a dynamic area that moves with every shift of the outer labia, jewellery stability is critical throughout healing.
| Stage | Timeframe | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Inflammatory | Days 1–10 | Mild tenderness and possible light bleeding; liner in underwear; avoid sexual activity |
| Healing | Weeks 2–5 | Surface settles quickly; maintain twice-daily saline; no sexual activity |
| Maturing | Weeks 5–8 | Increasingly comfortable; confirm healed with piercer before any jewellery change or sexual activity |
What Jewellery Is Used in a Triangle Piercing?
A circular barbell stretched open into an inverted U shape is the standard starting jewellery for a triangle piercing. This configuration is known informally as the Bermuda Triangle. The open U shape allows the two ball ends to sit tucked in on either side of the hood rather than protruding outward, which reduces twisting during healing and creates a more comfortable fit against the surrounding tissue. Many people continue wearing this modified jewellery style long after healing due to its comfort and stability.
| Style | Best For | Size Guide | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Circular barbell (Bermuda Triangle) | Fresh and healing | 10G or 12G; diameter to anatomy | Standard starting jewellery; stretched open to inverted U; ends tuck into sides of hood |
| Captive bead ring (healed) | Healed wear | 10G or 12G; diameter to anatomy | Alternative for healed piercings; always change with piercer using tapers to avoid losing placement |
| Curved barbell (healed) | Healed wear | 10G or 12G; length to anatomy | Comfortable healed option; confirm fit with piercer before self-changing |
Implant-grade titanium only. Because the triangle sits in a position that can be difficult to access visually, always have jewellery changes performed by your piercer using tapers. Attempting a self-change at this placement risks losing the channel entirely if the jewellery is removed without something in place to maintain the fistula.

How to Care for a Triangle Piercing
Clean the piercing with sterile saline twice daily. The most practical method is to submerge the area in a clean container of warm sterile saline for 2 to 3 minutes. Alternatively spray saline directly at both jewellery ends. Pat dry with a clean paper towel after each soak. Keep the area dry between cleans: the warm moist environment of the genital region can slow healing if moisture accumulates around the jewellery.
Wear clean breathable cotton underwear throughout healing. Change underwear daily. Avoid tight synthetic fabrics that trap moisture and friction against the jewellery. Some light spotting for the first few days after the procedure is normal: lining underwear with a clean pad for the first week helps protect clothing and keeps the area cleaner.
Avoid sexual activity during the full healing period. When sexual activity resumes, do so gently and rinse the piercing with saline afterwards. The behind-shaft stimulation the triangle provides becomes more pronounced as healing completes and the tissue settles around the jewellery. Avoid swimming pools, baths and hot tubs throughout healing. Monitor for any sign of the jewellery shifting position and report changes to your piercer promptly.
