Most people don’t notice piercing standards when everything goes well. They only notice them after something has gone wrong.
A client once came to us asking why a piercing they’d had done elsewhere never healed properly. They’d followed aftercare advice perfectly and assumed their body was the problem. When we assessed the piercing, it became clear that the issue wasn’t them — it was the original decision-making.
The placement didn’t suit their anatomy, the jewellery was too short for swelling, and there had been no discussion about downsizing later on. None of these things are dramatic on their own, but together they create a piercing that struggles from day one.
At OSCO London, our standards exist to prevent exactly that situation.
We assess anatomy carefully before agreeing to any piercing. If something won’t heal well long-term, we explain why and offer alternatives. Sometimes that means saying no — even when a client really wants a specific look. Those conversations aren’t always easy, but they’re part of doing the job properly.
Our standards also cover how we work: sterilisation, single-use equipment, implant-grade jewellery, and unhurried appointments. We don’t rush people through because rushing is where mistakes happen.
In that client’s case, the piercing needed to be removed and allowed to heal before starting again. When we re-pierced it later with correct placement and jewellery, it healed without issue.
Professional standards aren’t about being strict or exclusive. They’re about protecting people from problems they shouldn’t have to deal with in the first place.
